Event Highlight: Invited Colloquium by Prof. Ke Shen

The British Carbon Group recently hosted an invited colloquium titled “New Insights into the Growth and Coalescence of Carbonaceous Mesophase”, delivered by Prof. Ke Shen on Tuesday 7th October 2025 at the Henry Royce Hub Building, University of Manchester.

The event brought together researchers and professionals interested in the structural evolution of carbonaceous materials, offering valuable insights into the mechanisms of mesophase formation and coalescence — fundamental to the development of advanced carbon materials.

We thank Prof. Shen for an inspiring and thought-provoking session, and all attendees for contributing to a vibrant discussion.

Stay tuned for future BCG-hosted talks and events across the UK carbon research community.

New Chair Appointed at The British Carbon Group

We’re delighted to share that Dr Alex Theodosiou has been elected as the new Chair of The British Carbon Group at our recent AGM. Alex, from the Nuclear Graphite Research Group at the University of Manchester, has long been a driving force in our activities — notably in organising recent meetings at the Henry Royce Institute.
A huge thank you to Dr Geoff Fowler for his seven years of dedicated leadership as Chair — your contributions have been invaluable.
